Militiamen detained a bus in Hrodna, which was going to drive to Svislach to commemorate the memory of the insurgents of 1863. The people from Minsk didn’t manage to get to the place, too – their bus was detained twice – in Dziarzhynsk and Baranavichy.

The bus with the movement “For Freedom” friends, members of other organizations and youth activists was detained by the militia in Hrodna. The militiamen came inside and made video of everyone presented. Near the bus the empty militia cars stood.

- According to our information, you and your Minsk forces are trying to cause a stir in Svislach today, - a militiaman said to the people presented. After they made operative video and warned of the responsibility for the participation in an unauthorized event, the bus was let go.

The program of the Day of Memory consisted of prayer in the local church, flower-laying ceremony to the memorials of rebellion heroes Kastus Kalinouski and Ramuald Traugut, village Yakushouka visit, where ruins of the fundament of Kalinouskis estate remained, near it the democratic movement activists installed a memorial cross in 1997, and a concert.

On the Day of Memory of the insurgents of 1963 many people come to Svislach annually. Svislach is the only populated place where the monument to Kastus Kalinouski was installed. Kastus’s elder brother Viktar buried on the local cemetery. He is considered to be an instigator of national liberation movement in Belarus in the latter half of the ХІХ century. Viktar Kalinouski’s grave was found on the Svislach cemetery by Hrodna journalist Zmiter Kisel and a local activist of democratic movement in 1996. The monument was installed on the grave and the grave site was improved. Since that time the celebration of the Day of Memory in Svislach has become traditional.

This year the action was organized by Hrodna movement “For Freedom”, Hrodna city organization of the Belarusian Popular Front, Hrodna area organization of the Belarusian Socio-Democratic Party, Svislach community of Kalinouski brothers.
