Belarus will host the International Meeting of communist and workers’ parties for the first time. The forum titled “90th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. Current importance of ideas of the Revolution. Communists’ struggle for socialism against imperialism” is to be held in Minsk on 3-5 November 2007, first secretary of the Central committee of the Communist party of Belorussia Tatsiana Golubieva told BelTA.
As she remarked, the meetings of the leaders and representatives of communist and workers’ parties are held annually, but this is the first time when Belarus was “given this honor.” Communists of Belarus and Russia have sent an address to the working group of the International communist movement, asking to hold a meeting in Belarus and Russia. The paper was signed by Tatsiana Golubieva and chairperson of the Central committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Ziuganov.
According to Tatsiana Golubieva, the decision was influenced by the fact that Belarus is the only country where the Day of the October Revolution is proclaimed a national holiday; moreover, the museum of the first session of the Russian Social Democratic Workers’ Party is located in Minsk.
As for now, 80 parties from all over the world (in general, there are more than 110 communist and workers’ parties) have confirmed their participating in the forum. More than 150 people are expected to take part in the meeting, including Gennady Ziuganov, leaders of the communist parties of Ukraine and Greece Petro Symonenko and Aleka Papariga. The delegations of the communist parties of China, Cuba and Vietnam are supposed to be outstanding.
The meeting will touch upon the current state of the international communist movement as well as the situation in various parts of the world. The three-day work is to be completed with adoption of resulting documents. It is also planed to lay wreaths on the monument for Vladimir Lenin, Victory column and to visit several Belarusian enterprises.
