Lukashenka launched nuclear power station construction

On November 12 Aliaksandar Lukashenka signed decree # 565 “On certain measures on nuclear power station construction.” According to the presidential press-service, the paper was issued in order to start preparation works for the construction of a nuclear power station in Belarus and maintenance of nuclear and radiation security in compliance with the IAEA recommendations.

According to the decree, a committee on nuclear power station construction is to be established within the Ministry of Power Engineering in order to act as a customer for the preparation and research works.

The department of nuclear and radiation security of the Ministry of Emergency is to be established to perform the functions of state regulation and licensing secure usage of nuclear energy, ionizing radiation, and secure usage of radioactive wastes.

The state scientific institution “United institute for power and nuclear research - Sosny” of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences is to be in charge of scientific aspect of the construction.

Republican unitary enterprise “Belnipienergoprom” is appointed as the general planner who will negotiate on the works of selecting the set for construction, elaboration of the basis for construction investments and tender documentation.
