Mikola Charginets, head of the “house of representatives” on national security went to law against famous journalist Alyaksandr Takmachou and private unitary enterprise “Vryemya Novostei”, which issues the independent news-paper “Novy Chas.”

Charginets demanded that “Vryemya Novostei”pay BYR 500 mln and Alyaksandr Takmachou, author of the article “General-Senator Mikola Charginets”, pay BYR 100 mln for allegedly “damage of honour, dignity and goodwill.”

“An article “General-Senator Mikola Charginets” by Alyaksandr Takmachou was published in the section “Modern times in personalities”. The author wrote about the carrier of “writer-MP Mikola Charginets,” editor-in-chief of “Novy Chas” Alyaksei Karol said to the Charter’97press center.

As it is noted in the suit, Charginets was indignant with the information in the article, that he concerned with the high profiled “Vitebsk case” of 1980ies, when innocent people were convicted and one of them was sentenced to death.

The article said that Charginets, who was direct relevance to the investigation, avoided punishment due to timely duty journey to Afghanistan, where he returned as a hero from. Mikola Charginets didn’t like the fact that the author of the article said his trip to Afghanistan became a “rescue” of his further carrier of future “member of parliament”.

But, according to the editor-in-chief of “Novy Chas”, Charginets was especially displeased with the way the author described his creative activity. “The indignation was drawn by the statement that Charginets uses “literary slaves” and by the fact that he was named head of “proper” union of writers,“ Alyaksei Karol says.

The trial is to be on December, 5 at the Pershamaiski District Court in Minsk. But the editor’s office thinks the court will not satisfy the demands of the MP, because there was no libel or insults, but only facts in the article. “At the last outside we can be suggested to give floor to Mikola Charginets in order he disproves the information, published in the article,” Alyaksei Karol said to the Charter’97 press center.
