Issues of cooperation between Belarus and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are to be discussed by Belarusian Internal Minister Uladizmir Navumau and the head of the IOM Brunson McKinley in Geneva, Interfax was told by the head of Belarusian Internal Ministry information and public relations department Katsyaryna Samusenkava-Shelehava.

“In the framework of U. Navumau’s visit to Geneva his meeting with IOM general director Brunson McKinley is planned. During the meeting further cooperation and prospects of realization of joint programs and projects are to be discussed,” K. Samusenkava-Shelehava said.

She reminded that U. Navumau takes part in the 94th session of the IOM Council which lasts until November 30. The head of the police agency of Belarus is to inform members of the IOM about opening of the International training, recurrent training and skills improvement center for staff in the sphere of migration and human trafficking counteraction. Besides, he will tell about the existing facilities for support to other countries which are aiming at thinking up more effective joint efforts in human trafficking counteraction and in migration managing, the Internal Ministry representative said.

Representatives of 120 member countries, 20 observing countries, and numerous intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations with an observer status are to take part in the session, K. Samusenkava-Shelehava specified.

As we have informed, Internal Minister of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau together with other high-ranking Belarusian officials is suspected in involvement in abductions and assassinations of oppositional leaders in Belarus. Because of that he and other officials are banned entry to the EU countries and the US.

Navumau can go to Switzerland because this country is not a member of the European Union. Besides, a rule of international organizations is in force: states at which territory international organizations work, are subject to their regime in this case.
