The play “Jeans Generation” of the Belarusian “Free Theatre” is to be the last in one of the best theatre festivals of Europe, Munich Festival Spielart. The Charter’97 press-center has been told by the head of the theatre Mikalay Khalezin, how the Belarusian actors’ performance is taking place.
- Mikalay, what was the program of the Free Theatre’s participation in Munich Theatre Festival?
- Munich Festival Spielart is one of the most prestigious European theatre events. 26 plays will be performed during the festival. Theatre groups from most of the EU countries, from Switzerland and the US have arrived for the festival. The festival is finished by three plays: “Fathers” by Alvis Hermonis, staged in Zurich, our play “Jeans Generation” which would be performed twice, and a play of New York theatre.
On November 30, on the last days of the festival, Solidarity Party will take place. DJ Lavr Berzhanin will play with a famous Florian Keller (Compost records resident).
By the way, Solidarity Party will take place in the framework of “World Musicians for Solidarity with Belarus” project patronized by Mick Jagger. This party will finish Munich Festival which lasts for almost a month.
- Why are you performing “Jeans Generation” at the festival?
- This play by its form is in harmony with this festival most. We have three plays which are constantly in demand at festivals. And “Jeans Generation” has been selected for this particular festival. A commission has watched it twice, first here, in Germany, and second in France. As a result, it has been decided that “Jeans Generation” is to close Munich Festival.
- It’s a great honour to close the festival, isn’t it?
- Undoubtedly, headliners of the festival are a “golden pool” of theatre Europe. They are those theatrical companies who determine innovations and now tendencies. In principle, we met with Alvis Hermanis last week in Helsinki, and now we have met in Munich. In both places we were closing theatre festivals.
