After bans the regime proceeds to provocations

Organizers of the Social March have summed up the results of the rally that took place on November 4. “The authorities have broken away from bans, but they have proceeded to provocations tactics. To use force against people who offer a dialogue is immoral. Moreover, the regime depends on European economic programs, foreign credits today, and it’s the second reason why the regime has given up such hard line methods of communication with protesters as a paddy wagon and truncheon blows on the head,” told the deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party Viktar Ivashkevich.

According to Ivashkevich, pro-fascist organizations “Belaya Volya” and “Belaya Rus” and anarchists who out up a fight during the march, are under a careful attention of secret services.

“I concede that there are marginal groups that believe that they follow some ideology, but to my mind, they do not have either a serious approach or clear vision of their place in the political spectrum. I think these groups are under close control of the KGB, and secret services are just using them for such provocations,” Viktar Ivashkevich said.

However, the chairman of the organizing committee of the Social March Valery Ukhnalyou is satisfied with the rally:

“In the framework of the campaign “the Social March” we have held a march and a meeting. And we think our goal has been achieved. The most important thing is that it was peaceful, with the exception of the provocation to which we bear no relation as you understand. The main conclusion we can draw is that we have managed to attract completely new people who hadn’t taken part in such actions. Veterans, Chernobyl liquidators, event from other cities, elderly people who are afraid of their future after repel of benefits, have taken part in the rally. We didn’t have an aim to attract as many people as possible; the main objective was to declare that problems exit in our country, and the regime either creates these problems itself or doesn’t want to solve them,” the politician underlined.

According to the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, mass social protests are still to come:

“When we meet people we understand that common people have a positive attitude towards our actions, and to the care for them. People haven’t felt the problem deeply yet, it hasn’t touched their pocket yet, but next year it could become a serious factor of street struggle. We should meet with people; inform them about that, so that they would lose fear. When the fear would be defeated in the society, there will be mass protest,” Lyabedzka believes.
