Navumau is keeping silence about the missing people and political prisoners
- 9.11.2007, 8:21
Home Minister Uladzimir Navumau came to the editorial office of “Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi” to talk to the readers on Thursday, November 8. There wasn’t a second of the 2-hour hot line that the telephones of the office wouldn’t ring. Navumau was talking about everything - road traffic rules, asphalt near the building of the editorial office; however, he couldn’t answer the questions of those who hardly managed to get through - questions on political prisoners and the missing politicians.
- I work in Smaliachkova Street. The editorial office must be there.
- Yes!
- They have finally fixed the road, right before your visit. Thank you for coming!
- You can prompt me unfixed places, I’ll come there.
- There are many offices here, cars are parked everywhere. But there was no parking spot made during the restoration of the road. And I don’t think there will be something like that here.
- The head of the road police of the country is by my side right now. After the hot line we shall come out to the street, he’ll walk, look around and make a decision.
Readers offered the Minister to equip pedestrian crossings with reflecting elements, to launch the production of Belarusian car seats for children etc.
In general, the Minister gave a high esteem to the road traffic in Minsk.
- Many drive new cars at a high speed, violate road traffic rules. The situation is terrible.
- No, it’s not. The situation is not yet terrible, owing to responsible drivers. If the situation was terrible, we would not notice it. But since there are some who violate the rules, the situation seems terrible sometimes. A well-brought person follows the rules.
- I’d love to ask pedestrians to check if a car has stopped so that they can cross the street, because they nearly jump under cars…
- Together with you via “Komsomolka” we ask pedestrians: “We all must respect each other!”
- I agree with you. I’d like to ask road personnel to sand slopes more thoroughly.
- We shall take it into account. See you in the roads!
MEANWHILE
Skrabets and a journalist of Radio Svaboda got through to Navumau.
- My name is Siargey Skrabets. I’m a former political prisoner.
- I don’t know any of those.
- When will political prisoners be released?
- Do you know the topic of the hot line?
- No, I don’t.
- They will be released when the sentence will be over.
- Why doesn’t Kazulin receive my registered letters?
- I don’t know. Just like the others, Kazulin can do what the others can do.
- A doctor is not allowed to examine him.
- What does it mean?
- He was on a hunger strike for 53 days.
- Yes.
- He needs an independent doctor.
- Why?
- For a consultation on how to stop a hunger strike.
- I think you’re the one who knows very well how to stop a hunger strike. Do you know how many doctors he consulted?
- No, I don’t.
- Ask him. He has consulted a lot of doctors.
- A doctor of the Red Cross must be allowed to examine him. There is no political motive here.
- You’re the first who has applied in this matter.
- If it’s possible, will you please consider this question?
- I will.
- Thank you, good bye.
- My name is Aleg. Have you ever been in the village of Vasilevichy of Gomel region? … The mother of your former colleague Yury Zakharanka, the Minister who disappeared 8 years ago, lives in this village.
- You know, I have another topic for discussion here. We meet rather often; I have recognized your voice. I promise we will talk about it later.
- Yes, my name if Aleg Gruzdzilovich.
- We have another topic today. I must get ready and find out what is being done in this matter, to give you a proper reply.
