Flash mob in Minsk: police given financial support

  • 17.12.2007, 15:06

A flash mob timed to the Day of Solidarity with repressed people and families of missing politicians was held in the Main Post Office in Minsk on 16 December.

It should be reminded that this day is celebrated by the democratic community every 16 day of a month.

As Agar Rynkevich, deputy head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada), said, about 15 people came to the post office at the same time and began to fill the payment documents on a total sum of BYR 211.000. “It was the sum, the court ordered former candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin to recover for allegedly damaged video camera of the policeman,” he noted.

I. Rynkevich thinks the blame of Alyaksandr Kazulin wasn’t proved. “Nevertheless, we decided to support police with money, who as it is known have “low” salary, and the authorities, who are trying to fill the budget by all means, including repeal of benefits and high fines of opposition activists for any reason,” the politician said.

It should be reminded A. Kazulin was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for organisation of protest actions against election results on 25 March, 2006. He is serving his term in the Vitebsk penal colony of general regime “Vitba-3.” Amnesty International recognised A. Kazulin as a political prisoner.
