European Coalition: Participation in elections possible only under certain conditions
- 20.12.2007, 12:01
A regular session of the coordinating committee of the European coalition has taken place. Members of the Coordinating committee have cleared up their position on parliamentary elections in the next year. They believe that the democratic forces can take part in the parliamentary elections only when the following conditions would be fulfilled:
- release of political prisoners;
- democratic forces representatives should become members of the election commissions;
- cancellation of early voting procedure;
- the right for monitoring of ballot counting by observers should be ensured.
Members of the Coordinating Committee also believe that if the democratic forces would adopt the decision to take part in the elections, their common election platform must be based upon propositions of Belarus’ joining the EU. The Coordinating Committee has assigned to Uladzimir Navasyad and Paval Sevyarynets to bring this position to information of the United Democratic forces.
The Coordinating Committee has also supported the proposition of the Narodnaya Hramada presidium put across by Mikola Statkevich to summon the Forum of European Forces of Belarus next spring. The Committee has also agreed on the proposal to prepare the nationwide European campaign in cooperation with other pro-European forces.
The Coordinating Committee has expressed its solidarity with a political prisoner Artur Finkevich who was brought to account again.
