A trial has taken place in the court of Pershamajski district of Minsk at the suit of the head of the pro-regime writers’ union Mikalay Charhinets against journalist Alyaksandr Tamkovich and a private enterprise “Chas Navinau”.

The parties haven’t found amicable agreement. Charhinets’ claims to the journalist and the newspaper have remained the same, like the sum of the money he wants to get for intentional denigration of his honour and dignity, 100 millions from A. Tankovich and 500 millions from the publishing house.

Judge Alena Anannich has set the date of the first court session for December 19. The trial is to start at 10 a.m. in Talbukhin Street, 9.

A human rights activist Valer Schukin and a representative of the US Embassy Steven Gillen have come to support the independent newspaper and Alyaksandr Tamkovich.

Alyaksandr Tamkovich was absent in the court because of an illness. Mikalay Charhinets was absent as well.
