Syargei Sidorski: We screw up balance of foreign trade

Concrete officials will be responsible for achieving the rate of balance of foreign trade this year. Syargei Sidorski said it on the session of the Council of Ministers on 11 January.

The prime minster required the government and local authorities to give a concrete action plan on achieving the established rate of balance of foreign trade in 2008 – minus 1,4 billion dollars. As Syargei Sidorski noted, this rate of negative balance is a specified rate. “We screw it up last year,” S. Sidorski acknowledged.

The prime minister ordered the governmental commission to work out a concrete action plan on increasing of exports and reduction of imports to achieve the rate. “As a result 48 pages of general explanations have been prepared, it is a scientific work, but these explanations don’t give any suggestions on how to achieve the planned rate. That will never do,” the prime minister said.

It should be reminded that according to the Ministry of Statistics, negative balance of foreign trade amounted to USD 3billion and 652,8 million in actual prices for the period January-November 2007.
