The Justice Ministry of Belarus intends to go to the Supreme Court to bring an action to liquidate the Party of Communists of Belarus (PCB). It has been informed by Justice Minister of Belarus Viktar Halavanau. On January 2 a half-year term of suspension of the PCB activities ends. This term has been set by a ruling of the Supreme Court of August 2, 2007 on the suit of the Justice Ministry.

“Having addressed the court with a suit to suspend the activities of the PCB, the Justice Ministry hoped that the leadership of the party would execute orders and make amendments which had caused suspension of their activities. First it was this way, but later the leader f the party started to give interviews not only in our country, but abroad as well,” the minister said.

However, he explained that for the period of suspending activities members of the party are forbidden to carry out any activities which had been the reason for suspending its activities: a number of organizational structures of the PCB are not situated at their legal addresses, in many cases they do carry out almost no activities, deceased or legally incompetent persons are registered as party members. Membership fees registration system is not well-run, and in a number of cases fees were received in cash, not to the bank account.

“The party could have tried to correct these breaches, but no confirmation of that has been received by the Ministry,” the minister stressed.
