Minibus taxis stopped work in Homel

Since January 1 about 90% of shared taxi stopped their work.

Local officials connect that with a necessity of re-registration of taxi owners, individual entrepreneurs, as legal entities.

However, an owner of one of minibus taxi who hasn’t presented himself said to BelaPAN that since the New Year he became a driver himself as he cannot hire anybody. “It is unprofitable to turn into a legal entity, we’ll have to work for nothing and have lots of problems. Now I work as a driver myself, but I’m looking for another occupation,” he said.

As we have informed, under Decree No.760 which came in force on January 1, 2008, individual entrepreneurs are prohibited to hire persons who are not their close relatives.

In this connection since the new year at least 70% of individual entrepreneurs suspended their work all over Belarus. On January 10 entrepreneurs are set to gather on October Square in Minsk again with a demand to reverse the discriminatory law.
