Milinkevich: Free World Will Win

“My forecast is free independent Belarus, and I hope that it will happen soon,” the leader of “for Freedom” movement Alyaksandr Milinkevich said.

Radio Svaboda has addressed the former candidate for presidency in Belarus, the leader of the movement “For Freedom!” Alyaksandr Milinkevich with a question what events are expected by him in his personal life, in Belarus and in the world in 2008.

“Predicting is a thankless job. We should work a lot, and then forecasts will be fulfilled. I wish my family happiness and wellbeing this year, and to protect love. And for our country I wish freedom above all things. I really believe that renaissance of Belarus is taking place, that people will be wiser, more responsible, and that Belarus will take the European path. Thus, my prediction is a free independent Belarus, and I believe it will happen soon. But in which year it will happen? It’s hard to say. In 2008 or in 2009? I am convinced that it will not take much time?

As for the events in the world: the world is unquiet, and unfortunately unstable. I would like more democracy and freedom in the world. There were they are present, people live better. And my prediction is that struggle between different directions of building countries will continue. The tendency for authoritarianism in the world is to stay. But I believe that a free, democratic world is still to win as an example for the world,” the politician said.
