State propaganda needs money

The budget 2008 provides more than BYR 158 billion, or USD 74 million in equivalent, for financing the state media.
It follows from the law “On Budget of the Republic of Belarus for 2008”, adopted on 26 December, 2007 (registered in the National Book of Legislative Acts on 27.12.2007 under the number 2/1400).
According to the law, the budget provides more than BYR 121 billion for needs of TV and radio, more than BYR 15 billion for periodical press and publishing, and more than BYR 21 billion for “other expenses of media.”
In 2007 USD 64 million was spent for media, in 2006 – more than 60 million, in 2005 – about 40 million, in 2004 – less than 30 million dollars, press service of Belarusian Association of Journalists reminds.
