Charhinets: “How could I rig election, if I wasn’t taking part in vote count?”

A member of the “council of representatives: Mikalay Charhinets states that sanctions of the European Union should be lifted against him, as he personally hadn’t been taking part in the work of election commissions during the elections.

“From the moral and legal point of view it is nonsense to charge me with being responsible for rigging election results. When you charge a person in some machinations, one should understand whether he has an access to them. If I hadn’t been taking part in the work of the election commissions, hadn’t been counting votes, how could I “rig” elections?” Charhnets said in an interview to Radio Svaboda.

As we have informed, on October 9 the European parliament has adopted a resolution on situation in Belarus. The document offers suspension for 6 months of sanctions against officials who were not taking part in violation of the elections’ democratic standards. “The parliamentary election” has been recognized not free and not democratic.
