Belarusian regime on list of arms suppliers to Sudan

Belarus is mentioned on the list countries, directly providing weapon to warring parties in Sudan. The list of the countries, violating embargo of the UN, has been made by Human Rights First. In 2004, the United Nations imposed an embargo on arms supplies to the country due to the war conflict in Darfur.

Among other countries, supplying arms to the region are Russia, Iran, China, India, Cyprus, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Slovakia, Spain, and Turkey.

Belarus has already been in the center of the scandal of weapon supplies to the war region, the Charter’97 press center reported. According to Sudan Tribune, Sudan Government received a party of Russian MIG-29 fighters. A source in the Sudan army said the fighters were secretly delivered to the country from Belarus.

As the edition wrote referring to its source, 12 MIG-29 combat fighters were shipped discreetly from Belarus. The planes were located in the Wadi Sayedna air base, near Khartum.

Belarus is one of the arms suppliers to Sudan, the edition wrote. The two countries signed an agreement on cooperation and experience exchange in military sphere in June 2006. In accordance with the document, Belarusian instructors train Sudanese military men, exchange military experiences, and scientists of the to countries work out joint military projects.

Civil was in Darfur between the government and the Janjaweed from one side and numerous rebel groups, struggling for more independent for the rebellious province from the other side, has been conducted since February 2003. According to the United Nations, at least 200,000 people were killed, and 2.5 million civilians became refugees.

Belarusian government was accused for several times of delivering arms, including Russian weapon, to countries at war or countries supporting terrorism.
