Grassroots protest in Polatsk

A grassroots protest action of individual entrepreneurs of Polatsk market has been held today.

Witness of the incident, member of the independent trade union “Solidarity” Vital Shauchenka told to Radio Svaboda that “people were indignant with rigid behaviour of officers of tax inspections, who tried to confiscate goods from footwear seller.”

“As soon as tax inspection officers said they were going to confiscate the goods, sellers began to defend the victim and took three-four pairs of shoes for themselves,” Vital Shauchenka said.

According to Vital, the conflict lasted for an hour and ended with a victory of entrepreneurs. Vital Shauchenka says as soon as inspectors left the market, colleagues of the footwear seller gave her all her goods back.
