Belarusian “deputies” have voiced support to recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia’s independence.

“I personally support the idea of recognition of these republics’ independence,” the chairman of the Commission on informational politics of the “chamber of representatives” Mikalay Dubavik said in an interview to the website Gazeta.ru. “Russia’s actions in the Caucasus were very liberal, I think it should have acted harsher”.

Dubavik is convinced that his colleagues are solidary with him in the issue of the republics’ independence, and will adopt a positive decision concerning their recognition.

As said by him, the issue of recognition the republic’s independence can be submitted for the agenda at the last session of the former “chamber of representatives” on October 23.

As we have informed, the “parliament” of the so-called “union state” of Russia and Belarus granted an observer status to Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The republics can become permanents members of the “union”, and of the “parliamentary assembly” consequently, but only after an official recognition by Belarus. This step could be possibly done by Minsk next week.
