The eldest son of Fidel Castro, who considered one of the most probable of Comandante’s successors, recently visited Belarus.

There haven’t been official reports about the visit of the Cuban dictator’s son, physicist. However an online newspaper Salidarnasts received confirmation that Casto junior visited Belarusian land.

Having received information about Fidelito Castro ‘s stay, journalists tried to check it in official sources. The Foreign Ministry of Belarus stated that they “do not comment on rumours”. But the Cuban Embassy to Belarus confirmed that Fidel Castro’s son really visited Belarus.

“Yes, Fidelito Castro really visited Belarus on invitation of the State Committee on Sciences and Technologies. He had a narrow program,” the Cuban Embassy to Belarus stated.

The committee confirmed that Fidel Castro Jr. was in Belarus about a month and a half ago. He visited scientific centres of the Academy of Science (including the united institute of energy and nuclear research “Sosny”), the Education Ministry, talked to administration of these institutions.

“It was his first visit to Belarus,” noted the head of the international scientific and technical cooperation of the Science and technologies’ State Committee Tamara Serkova. “Fidelito Castro was interested in the scientific potential of Belarus. During the meetings informational materials on the state of the scientific and technical sphere in Belarus were given to him. He promised to pass them to the corresponding organisations on his return to Cuba. Then the partners would be able to contact directly.

Journalists were interested whether the issue of construction of a nuclear power station in Belarus had been discussed with Fidelito Castro.

“There wasn’t any concrete discussion. It was just an information visit,” the interlocutor said.

It is interesting why the visit of such a significant person is hushed by state-run media. Besides, the Foreign Ministry still denies the fact, while they are sure to know about it. It is possible that Minsk and Havana are in fact considering a possibility to cooperate in a common nuclear project.
