Navumau confirmed: Illegal money-changers, appeared in Belarus, will be arrested

Minister of internal affaires of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau confirmed at a briefing that “black money-changes“ appeared in Belarus.

“I confirm that the so called “black money changers”, we forgot long ago, have recently appeared in Belarus. In this connection, militia officers will have to refresh skills of combating this evil,” U. Navumau said.

According to him, “this issue (illegal exchange activities) is being actively discussed by the ministry and representatives of the National Bank yesterday and today.”

The minister of internal affaires thinks punishment for illegal exchange transactions should be tightened. “We plan to detain illegal money changers on the site with all money he or she will have. According to our law, this money must be seized,” Navumau said.

As the Charter’97 press center has already reported, young people, offering to but US dollars at 2,300–2,400 rubles, appeared near branches of different banks in Minsk.

All Belarusian banks have faced problems with dollar sale. Having no trust to Belarusian ruble in financial crisis, people began to buy dollars.
