It is planned in the resolution of the European parliament on Belarus to suspend visa sanctions of the EU against some Belarusian officials for half a year. The concrete decision could be adopted at the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Luxemburg.

To the question of Radio Svaboda whether sanctions against Lukashenka are suspended, Justas Paleckis, a MEP, said:

“You know, it is done not by the parliament. Next week there will be the European Council session, Ministers of Foreign Affairs from 27 countries are to meet. Mr Martynau is invited there. And the decision can be adopted there. The parliament only dives recommendations. So we’ll have to wait. The parliament recommends to show flexibility in this question, and to look for ways which would allow to move forward in improving relations between the European Union and Belarus”.

Mr Paleckis does not exclude that resolution of this question would be connected with certain conditions laid down to the Belarusian side.
