On 13 November, Hrodna public activists, who tried to hinder officers of Zelenstroi company from destroying trees on October 16, will have trials.

That attempt ended with drawing up a report, according to which militiamen accuse three city dwellers of hooliganism and disobeying to lawful requirements, Radio Racyja reports. The public activists have already received summons.

During redevelopment of Telehrafny Zavulak, local historian Ihar Lapekha, youth activist Nadzya Krapivina and member of the “For Freedom” movement Edvard Dmukhouski protected trees, which were to be cut down according to an order of the city executive committee. Hrodna dwellers explained their actions by unlawful orders of the local authorities: they decide to cut down the trees because they “plugged in water flow on the roof of the building”, where a college of the housing service is situated.

In Ihar Lapekha’s view, radical actions to protect the trees are caused by indifferent attitude of the local authorities towards a public opinion.

In the mean time, the fact of unlawful actions of the local authorities on destroying trees in Hrodna was admitted by the committee of natural resources. The housing services of the city received an instruction, according to which their actions on cutting down trees are violation of environment protection laws, obliging to agree destroying of plants with public.
