Cancelling EU sanctions on Lukashenka and his officials was a topic of talk show Forum on independent TV Belsat.
The guests were Andrei Sannikov, coordinator of the civil campaign “European Belarus”; Lyavon Barshcheuski, head of the Belarusian Popular Front party; Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civil Party; Zmitser Bandarenka, coordinator of Charter’97; and leader of the “For Freedom” movement Viktar Karnienka.
Forum’s host Eduard Melnikau said at the beginning:
“All of us remember the recent “parliamentary elections” held on September 28 current year. Depending on the results of the elections, the European Union, the whole European and world community said: if the elections are non-transparent, illegitimate, unlawful, sanctions on the Belarusian authorities will be preserved. All of a sudden the foreign ministers of the European Union countries said: though the OSCE recognised the elections to be illegitimate, unlawful and non-transparent, we ease sanctions on Belarus. It has created an intrigue in the country and split the opposition into two parts. We are going to discuss this.”
