Belarusians living in the United States hold a mourning meeting today near UN head quarters in New York in memory of victims of the Stalin’s regime in Belarus.
It is organised by the Youth Movement of the United States. The Association of the Belarusian Youth also organised mourning events and attending cemetery on Saturday, November 1, Radio Svaboda reports.
The Belarusian London association marked Dzyady Day with a morning mess in St. Peter and Paul Church and funeral service at St Pancras Cemetery, served by Belarusian priests headed by Alyaksandr Nadsan. Association of Belarusians of Great Britain organised a meeting with Uladzimir Arlou, participant of the first mass action in Minsk in honour of the Day of Commemoration of Dead Dzyady, broken down by the KGB and militia on October 30, 1988, and professor Paulina Maria Survila from the US and professor Zinaida Himpelevich from Canada.
Belarusian students from “Students’ Alliance” of the European Humanities University gathered at a cross to insurgents of 1983 established at Lukiskiu square in Vilnius. The action was attended by the Young Front activists and Belarusians of Vilnius, “Nasha Niva” newspaper reports.
