The world start of a new part of Bondiana, “Quantum of Solace”, has coincided with launching the film Defiance with Daniel Craig in the lead role.
“Defiance” is a story from the time of the Second World War when a partisan party in the woods near Navahrudak was organized by Jewish brothers after the Nazi killed their family, “Salidarnasts” reminds.
As we have informed, in the end of 2007 Hollywood film director Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Legends of the Fall) was inspired by the screenplay by Clay Frohman based on a nonfiction book of the same name by author Nechama Tec. The film is based on the true story of the Bielski partisans. The brothers organized a Jewish partisan party, disobeying the Nazi who had occupied Belarus.
Daniel Craig is starring in the role of Tuvia Bielski, one of the four brothers. Another celebrity, Liev Schreiber (The Omen).
In mass scenes of the film Belarusians, students of the European Humanities University, participated as well. They had lots of impressions: one of the actors from the crowd of extras asked the partisans to sing the Belarusian popular song “Kupalinka”.
“Defiance” tells the true life story of the Bielski partisans. The Bielskis were three brothers who escaped into the Belarus forests while on the run from the Nazis and banded together to form a resistance group to save other Jews during WWII. The partisans’ party is growing, becoming stronger, establishes complex relations with local Soviet partisans… The film is a military drama.
The film is to appear in cinemas on November 9. This film is to close this year's American Film Institute Festival (AFI FEST) annually held in Los Angeles. This event which started in 1976 is considered one of the oldest film festivals in the US.
“Salidarnasts” offers pictures from the shooting location in Lithuania.
