Signing of an agreement of the EU and Belarus on opening of the European Commission’s office in Minsk is planned for March 7. Radio Svaboda has been informed about that today morning by an anonymous high-ranking official of the EU.

He said: “We are expecting vice Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Varanetski to sign this document on March 7. The singing of the document to take place in Brussels”.

The European Commission office in Kyiv is in charge of Belarusian affairs so far. In its activities it encompasses Ukraine and Belarus. By the way, in the beginning of its work the office specialized on Moldova as well. But for more than two years an independent office started its work in Chisinau.

The European Union has proposed the Belarusian government to open an independent office in Minsk in 2005. However, Alyaksandr Lukashenka agreed on that only after two years. It was he who ordered Valery Varanetski to sing necessary documents.
