Traffic police command reprimanded

The head of Internal Ministry Uladzimir Navumau has given an admonition to the senior officer of traffic police of Belarus Alyaksandr Mendzeleu for the incident at the rout Mikashevichy-Minsk.

Besides, the head if traffic police of Minsk and Minsk region, the head of traffic police of Kastrychnitski district of Minsk, commanders of two traffic police squadrons. Traffic policemen who took part in the operation of detaining the drunken driver have been suspended from the exercise of duties for the period of the legal evaluation of the incident by the prosecutor’s office.

In the interview to Interfax correspondent Internal Affairs Minister U. Navumau stressed that whatever the case may be, the culpability of traffic policemen is obvious, as a threat to life and health of citizens was created. “In case the prosecutor’s office would decide to initiate criminal proceedings, the responsible would bear criminal responsibility. Otherwise their responsibility would depend on finding of the prosecutor’s office,” the minister added.

“In any case, the Interior Ministry must apologize to the persons aggrieved,” U. Navumau underlined.

As we have informed, on March 2 near Minsk traffic police officers were trying to stop a drunken driver , rushing at 180 km/h, using a shield of private cars with people inside (among them a little girl).
