A petition of Yuliya Kazulina on mitigation of sentence to her father, a chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada) Alyaksandr Kazulin is under consideration in the colony Vitsba-3, representatives of the colony told to Interfax on Monday.

“A petition from Yuliya Kazulina has been received by the penal colony. Yuliya Kazulina asked to substitute the punishment to A. Kazulin by a milder one. At the moment it is under consideration,” the penal colony representative said. “Over the recent few days an answer will be received by Yuliya Kazulina,” the interlocutor of the agency said.

A representative of the colony noted: “It is the second petition of A. Kazulin’s family on mild sentencing. There was an answer on the first one. The decision on the first petition was taken in accordance with the law. Kazulin was disciplined 4 times while he was in the penal colony”. However, proceeding from the logics of the escalating conflict between the US and Belarus, Kazulin’s release in the near future seems unlikely.

Earlier Yuliya Kazulina said to Interfax that “a petition to substitute the punishment by a milder one was sent on March 13 by a registered letter”. She asked to substitute the rest of the term by community works, and to reconsider 10 incidents of the regime’s disturbances. In particular, I ask to reconsider the violations that took place during the hunger strike,” Yuliya Kazulina said.

In 2006 A. Kazulin was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment.
