Yarmoshyna: “Lukashenka will take part in elections as long as he has force”

The chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lidziya Yarmoshyna is inclined to think that Alyaksandr Lukashenka will exercise the “right” to run in the presidential election in 2011.

“I think, he (Lukashenka) will use this right. As long he is supported by the people, as long as he has force for this very difficult work, he will take part in the election,” told the head of the Belarusian CEC in an interview to Obozrevatel newspaper which is to be released on Friday 21.

Yarmoshyna reminded that earlier the Constitution stipulate that “a person cannot run in the presidential election after two terms in power. It didn’t matter whether it were two terms in succession or not,” the head of the CEC noted. “But in 2004 after a nationwide referendum this restriction was lifted, and the acting head of the state can take part in the vote in the future,” L. Yarmoshyna said.
