Former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin has a meeting in the penal colony Vitsba-3 with his daughters Volha and Yulya on 3 May.

As BelaPAN has learnt from Yulya Kazulina, she made her father’s favourite cakes and other homemade food. “I’d like to feed him, make him happy,” Y. Kazulina noted.

The daughters are going to discuss various issues with A. Kazulin. “When he was temporally released to attend the funeral of our mother, we weren’t able to have a proper talk. We are going to talk on our family problems first of all. Volha wants to discuss some party issues, because our father is a leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) and Volha is an active member of the party,” Y. Kazulina told.

It was planned that they would have a meeting from 26 till 29 April. But the administration of the colony said to A. Kazulin, all rooms for meeting are busy for 26 April.

On 13 July 2006 A. Kazulin was found guilty of “riot organising” and sentenced to five and a half years of imprisonment. The politician is serving his punishment in the Vitsebsk minimum security penal colony “Vitsba-3.” The international community considered Alyaksandr Kazulin to be a political prisoner. The US and EU demand to release him. As Kazulin is still in prison, the US imposed sanctions against Belneftekhim company, after which the relations between the official Minsk and Washington have drastically escalated.
