General Prosecutor Office of Belarus ordered the Prosecutor Office of Minsk to prepare and send a duplicative request on rendering legal assistance over the case of head of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka.

It should be reminded that Anatol Lyabedzka lodged a complaint to the General Prosecutor Office of the Republic of Belarus against red-tapery and inactivity of procuracy officers, due to whom the politician has had the status of suspected for the forth year over a criminal case of denigrating honour and dignity of Lukashenka in Zerkalo TV programme hosted by Nikolai Svanidzwe on RTR TV channel.

The UCP leader applied for allowing him to learn the materials of the criminal case and meeting with Prosecutor General Ryhor Vasilevich.

The answer from the General Prosecutor Office signed by department head S. Yavorski says the General Prosecutor Office has ordered the Prosecutor Office of Minsk to “prepare and send a duplicative request on rendering legal assistance over this case. There are no grounds for reopening of introductory investigation and taking procedural decisions before execution of the mentioned motion.”

“It’s abnormal, when citizens had to be in suspended state for years, in the situation, when their rights are derogated, and they can’t leave Belarus,” the UCP leader noted.

What concerns denial meeting with Prosecutor General, Lyabedzka thinks, the question is not so much in the procedure, as in “discomfort of the high-rank officials”.

“It is clearly seen in the communication with the state institutions. I appeal to the heads, but receive answers signed by common officers. Nobody wants to sign the documents, which are objectionable from legal point of view,” Lyabedzka noted.
