Before “elections: authorities examine human rights activists’ earnings
- 25.06.2008, 13:09
On the day when human rights activists announced their intention to carry out a monitoring of the imminent parliamentary elections, a video item was presented on the “First Channel” of the Belarusian National TV and Radio Company on June 12. It insults honour and dignity of well-known human rights activists in Belarus. Later the footage was demonstrated on Sunday in “Panarama” TV programme.
Against the background of discrediting the human rights activities by the state media, the regime is carrying out a detailed check of tax history of human rights activists.
Over the last 10 days the Tax and Duties Ministry’ orders to submit property and earning declarations have been received by the chairman of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aleh Hulak, the first chairman of the organisation Tatsyana protska, Vice president of the International Federation of Human Rights Ales Byalatski, a worker of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Zmitser Markusheuski, a human rights activist Valyantsin Stefanovich, as well as their family members, the website of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee informs.
These facts give grounds to believe that actions of the regime are connected with the intention of the human rights activists to carry out monitoring of the parliamentary elections.
