Yarmoshyna: I missed “elections”

  • 25.06.2008, 14:01

Lidziya Yarmoshyna, head of the Central Election Commission, said it was “difficult but interesting” to work during the elections.

“An electoral campaign for seats in the “house of representatives” will be held in an orderly and benevolent way,” Lidziya Yarmoshyna, head of the central Commission on Elections and Republican Referendums, said to journalists on 25 June.

According to her, electoral campaign of 2008 will little differ from the previous one from legislative point of view. “But the political tone of the campaign might be different – it will be more open,” the CEC head thinks. According to L. Yarmoshyna, the “parliamentary elections” will be more open because of a greater representation of different political parties that adhere to different politic al views.

Besides, the CEC head thinks, “there’s no lack of observers in Belarus, moreover, it has the highest density of international observers in the CIS countries.”

L. Yarmoshyna said a third of the current composition of the “house of representatives” was ready for reelection. “but over the latest time the ”MPs” who weren’t going to run for elections, have become interested in the elections. It’s difficult to say, how the “parliament” will change, it will depends of how strong alternative will be ready to change them. This is the main intrigue of the “parliamentary elections,”” she said.

L. Yarmoshyna admitted she “missed the elections”. “Life is difficult but interesting during this period,” the CEC head said.

It should be reminded that all election campaigns in Belarus since 1996 led by Lidziya Yarmoshyna have been admitted as unfree and non-democratic by the international community. Their results were recognised as falsified.
