Milinkevich required to file income-tax return

The Department on Financial Investigation at the State Control Committee (KGB) of the Hrodna Region required leader of the “For Freedom” movement Alyaksandr Milinkevich to file an income-tax return.
Alyaksandr Milinkevich must file the data on income and property for 2005-2008 till 12 noon 21 July. The politician may face administrative responsibility if he doesn’t fulfil the requirement.
Alyaksandr Milinkevich noted he didn’t have secrets and would give all necessary documents. However, he thinks the requirements are politically motivated and expressed his regret that professionals of financial investigation have to deal with political persecution.
It should be reminded that hundreds of democratic activists all over the country suffer from pressure of the financial police. leaders of the “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Sannikov and Zmitser Bandarenka, leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, deputy head of the Belarusian Popular Front Vintsuk Vyachorka, leader of the Party of Communists of Belarus Syarhei Kalyakin, human rights activists Ales Byalyatski, Valyantsin Stefanovich, Uladzimir Labkovich, Vera Stramkouskaya, head of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aleh Hulak, BHC members Tatsyana Protska, Harry Pahanyaila, Zmitser Markusheuski, journalist Iryna Khalip, as well as democratic candidates for the autumn “parliamentary elections” and candidates for members of electoral commissions were called to the Department of Financial Investigation and tax offices.
