In connection with the visit of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez to Minsk, a rather severe announcement has been distributed among dwellers of Zakharov Street in Minsk:
“Dear residents,
In connection with a visit to Simón Bolívar Park of a person for which security measures are to be stepped up, you are to close all windows and balconies on July 23 from 12 noon till 1 p.m. for your safety. It is strictly forbidden to enter the balcony connecting the escalator and escape ladder,” the announcement reads.
As we have informed, Simón Bolívar Park was recently made in Minsk in Zakharov Street. Hugo Chavez is a great fan of Bolívar, one of the leaders of the war of Spanish colonies in South America for their independence. Even now the park is filled with fire-engines, yard-keepers, workers of “Zelenstroj” and policemen. No doubt that this guarded person will be Venezuelan president.
Minsk dwellers have got used to such announcement already. For instance, citizens living in Victory Square are told to close their windows and not open air-vents every time Lukashenka arrives to lay flowers or participate in a parade.
