Anatol Lyabedzka: “House of representatives” as welcome as water in shoes

The Ukrainians wrote more than 46,000 suggestions and complaints to members of the Ukrainian Parliament over the first half of 2008. To compare, less then 10 records have been written in a complaint’s book of the “house of representatives” of the “national assembly” for almost 4 years.

“These figures demonstrate a place and role of the legislative body in the country,” leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka commented on the statistics to www.ucpb.org. “If Ukrainians perceive the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as a real parliament, which is able to influence the situation, the great majority of the Belarusians think the “house of representatives” is as welcome as water in one’s shoes. An institution, where only appointed “MPs” take posts, has no influence, power or popularity.”
