Today the chairperson of the central Elections Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna has commented mass denials to include opposition nominees to precinct election commissions.

“The matter is that it’s a right of those who form commissions. This position could be criticized, but it’s a concern of theirs.

To say the truth, I do not agree with that completely. I am not speaking that all applications should be satisfied. But we were to treat this matter with greater attention. And it was my constant recommendation.

However, actions of local authorities are legal. And I cannot correct them in any way, as it is a right of those who form commissions. They choose candidates themselves,” the CEC chairperson told to Radio Svaboda.

According to recent reports, only 6 out of 335 persons nominated by the Belarusian Popular Front party have been confirmed as members if precinct election commissions. Three of them are registered in Minsk, one in Brest, one in Horki and one in Vorsha.

The similar information is received from the United Civil Party. Only 5 members of the United Civil party have been included into precinct commissions out of more than 300 nominated.
