Lukashenka went to Sochi to meet with Medvedev

At the moment Alyaksandr Lukashenka stays on a working visit in Sochi, where he is to meet with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on August 19.

During the talks it is planned to discuss a wide range of vital issues of the bilateral Belarusian-Russian relations, and issues of the international security, his press-service informs.

As we have informed, August 14 Prime Minister of Belarus Syarhei Sidorski was holding a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Talks o economic issues on loans and cost of Russian gas have been postponed till September-October.

The stance of Belarus towards the conflict in South Ossetia has produced a situation when Alyaksandr Lukashenka is offered to find agreement with Russian President Dzmitry Medvedev first

The meeting of the heads of the “union state” was exceptionally cold, and for the first time there were no journalists participating in it, the Russian “Kommersant” writes. The Russian side restricted itself to placing of the first minutes of the shorthand report of the meeting at the official website of the government. Instead of discussing economic problems, Syarhei Sidorski had to explain the position of Belarus towards the war of Russia in Georgia.
