The chairperson of the Central Elections Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna is concerned over the low competition for a deputy seat, 3.3 persons for seat.

“Unfortunately, the results of nomination have upset me as well. 365 contenders, that’s how many we had at the bottom line at the moment of elections in October 2004,” Yarmoshyna said, answering the question of Interfax.

“We certainly will do our best to preserve this competitiveness,” she assured.

“However, there are violations that allow the commission to deny registration, but do not bind to do so,” the CEC head gladdened the audience.

As said by her, the CEC is ready to turn a blind eye to inaccuracies in income and property declarations.

“For instance, the matter could concern incorrectness in the declaration of income and property. That is why we shall show maximum flexibility where possible,” Yarmoshyna underlined.

Special criticism concerned Hajdukevich and his Liberal Democratic Party, which usually acts as “a crowd of extras” at elections.

“Parties have become almost three times less active. Firstly, the number of parties has decreased. Secondly, for instance, the Liberal Democratic Party, which had always been participating in elections actively and in fact comprising the major “crowd of extras”… has nominated just 7 its representatives at the u[coming elections,” the CE head concluded.
