Lithuania is going to offer the EU to consider a possibility to soften the policy of the Belarusian regime’s isolation. It has been stated by the chairman of the Lithuanian Sejmas Česlovas Juršėnas. Tomorrow during the meeting of the heads of parliaments of 8 Scandinavia and Baltic countries in Latvia Mr. Juršėnas is set to bring up the issue of Belarus.
The international observer Raman Yakauleuski admits that Belarus’ neighbours can contribute to normalization of relations of Belarus with the EU and the US. However, he links the statements of public officials from Vilnius to the upcoming elections in Lithuania.
“It is not the first statement we hear from Vilnius… Me personally view these statements in connection with the upcoming parliamentary elections in Lithuania, which is to take place on October 12,” the political analyst told in an interview to the European Radio for Belarus.
According to some forecasts, Conservators can come in power in Lithuania in autumn. Their attitude towards Lukashenka is very harsh.
“Thus, the statement of the present Speaker Juršėnas, and other statements of his fellow party members, and I should remind they are Social Democrats, cannot have real influence on normalization of the regime, which cannot reform itself, I must emphasize,” Yakauleuski noted.
