A presentation of a documentary “Freedom Day” by Yury Khashchavatski and Uladzimer Arlou has taken place in the headquarters of the Belarusian Popular Front.
The film is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian Popular Front. Its first run is dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the constitutional status of the Declaration of the State Sovereignty of Belarus. Organisers of the event are the independent TV channel Belsat and the culture commission of the Belarusian Popular Front party.
The film starts with a monologue of Uladzimir Arlou, while the video chronicles of the beginning of the last century is demonstrated. Then the history of the Belarusian People’s Republic is shown through the eyes of the chairperson of the Belarusian People ’s Republic’s Rada (Council) Ivonka Survila and other well-known persons. “Freedom Day” is exceptional in many ways.
“This film differs from others as we tried to discourse upon what could have happened if Europe recognized independent Belarus in the beginning of the 20th century. This film is interesting in its resonating with the recent events in the Caucasus,” Arlou said to Radio Svaboda.
It is the first run in Belarus. The organisers tried to make it in the “Peramoha” cinema, in the House of Veterans, but they were denied venues. Meanwhile, the Belarusian “Freedom Day” was demonstrated in many countries of Europe before March 25, told one of the authors, film director Yury Khashchavatski. There was a presentation in Strasbourg, in New York, in Tallinn, and now finally in Minsk.
The presentation of the film “Freedom Day” is to take place in Homel on August 31, and in Mahilyou on September 2.
