28 opposition activists from the European List run in the ”parliamentary election” weren’t registered as MP candidates. 51 people from the European List applied for registration.

The Charter’97 press center learnt it from Mikola Statkevich, head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada).

Mikola Statkevich, Uladzimir Navasyad, Anatol Bukas, Alyaksandr Makaeu, Alena Famina, Yury Novikau and other famous oppositionists didn’t pass the registration.

According to Statkevich, reasons for non-registration were groundless. People were accused they allegedly didn’t declare land plots and cars they even have. Violations of the election commissions were outrageous. The authorities are afraid of the European platform. It can be proved by the fact that in general, candidates from Minsk, the Minsk region and the Hrodna region, where rate of pro-European people is traditionally high, weren’t registered,” Mikola Statkevich noted.

Nevertheless, according to the politician, candidates from the European List are going to continue their election campaigns. “candidatures can be withdrawn some days before the election, if the authorities don’t fulfil our conditions, among them is cancelling of early voting and access of independent observers to monitoring of the voters counting,” Mikola Statkevich said.
