  • 12.09.2008, 15:20

Former members of the electoral headquarters of the candidate for president Alyaksandr Milinkevich, a deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party Viktar Ivashkevich and Alyaksei Yanukevich, have sent an open letter to the leader of the movement “For Freedom”.

Dear Alyaksandr!

08.09.2008 the website of the German radiostation Deutche Weile an article of Vilnius-based reporter of the radio station called “Former political rivals demonstrate will for cooperation” was published. On the same day this article was republished by websites www.milinkevich.org, www.charter97.org, www.bdg.by.

This article includes your statements: “It is very important for us at this stage to build a dialogue of the European Union with the regime. I do not believe that the dictator could turn into a democrat in one day. He won’t become a democrat, but he is interested for Russia not to take Belarus, as he would become nobody there…

…I advocate the 12 recommendations of the European Commission to be shortened first, to make three of them for instance. It is understandable that if the regime would make certain steps forwards, so should do the European Union in response…

…The policy should be done with our participation, as nobody knows the situation in Belarus as we know it. The policy shouldn’t be primitive, as a struggle for moral values”.

In connection with these unexpected statements we ask You to explain and answer some questions, and namely:

1. Whom do you mean by “our participation”?

2. What 2 out of 12 requirements of the EU for democratization of Belarus You are ready to defend, and which do You want to discard?

3. How does Your desire to give up on the primitive policy of struggle for moral values could be coincide with Your slogans: “Together! We believe! We can! We shall win!”

We ask You to answer there questions openly in the media, as we believe that a politician does not have a right to divide one’s statements into the ones for export and for home country, as it gets unclear when he says the truth.

We ask independent media to publish our letter, as the democratic community has a right to know the real thoughts of its “idols”.
