Mikhalevich praises the regime “for improvement of the elections atmosphere”

The atmosphere of the elections to the “chamber of representatives” has changed if compared to the previous election campaign, stated Ales Mikhalevich, recently expelled from the Belarusian Popular Front party.

This statement was made by Mikhalevich during the round table discussion on the developments of the electoral campaign organized by the magazine “Belaruskaya Dumka”, BELTA news agency informs .

The politician believes that during the present election campaign a rather liberal approach to all contenders for seats in the “chamber of representatives” of the “national assembly” have been demonstrated, no matter what political views they have. He underlined that “quite a lot of opponents of the current regime can become members on the new “parliament”.

The common theme which concerns both the authorities and opposition is effectiveness of the Belarusian economy, Ales Mikhalevich believes. “It should be noted that recently the government has made quite a number of successful steps,” Ales Mikhalevich said. Firstly, he mentioned liberalization of economic legislation, creation of a system of private entrepreneurship support, especially in the regions, “golden share” cancellation.

As we have informed, at the same round table discussion one of the leaders of Social Democrats Uladzimir Nistsyuk stated that the Belarusian authorities are treating all candidates rather tolerantly, including opposition ones. He said the atmosphere ahead of election in Belarus was good. In Nistsyuk’s view, elections were held under strict control of the authorities earlier, but not the situation has changed. “It would be suitable to remind a sitting held by Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the beginning of this election campaign. The president gave a clear task – secure open and transparent election,” Nistsyuk emphasised.
