Anzelika Borys meets with Polish premier

Anzelika Borys, a leader of ethnic Poles in Belarus, on September 23 met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw, Ihar Bantsar, a spokesman for Ms. Borys, told BelaPAN.

The meeting focused on the current situation regarding ethnic Poles living in Belarus, with the premier voicing his support for Ms. Borys and her allies, according to the spokesman.

Anzelika Borys is regarded by Warsaw as leader of the Polish community in Belarus. The national-level Union of Belarusian Poles is led by Jozef Lucznik who was elected to the position after the Belarusian authorities outlawed Ms. Borys as the union leader.

Mr. Bantsar said that Ms. Borys was ready for contacts with the Belarusian authorities but wanted them to make the first specific steps forward.
