Russia’s ambassador expects new “parliament” to recognise South Ossetia and Abkhazia

On September 24, Russia’s ambassador to Belarus Aleksandr Surikov told in an interview to BelaPAN Russia is interested in recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Belarus.

He emphasised that recognition of independence of a country was an inner affair of any independent state. “There can’t be collective instant recognitions in the world, “A. Surikov said. “A number of circumstances exist. The first one is relations of Belarus with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which should be recognised.”

According to him, Russia understands that “this process shouldn’t be forced and fastened”. “We think Belarus should take in its current relations with these enclaves, which is possible in prospects, and be able to view this matter sensibly,” the diplomat emphasised.

A. Surikov noted that the Russian side didn’t exclude possible joining of Abkhazia and South Ossetia the “union state” of Belarus and Russia in case Belarus recognises their independence. 2this situation needs understanding. We should think what positive and not so positive will it bring to the “union state”, what will be put in base of existence of four subjects, independent states. We don’t exclude this may happen, but only after serious discussion of this issues,” A. Surikov said.

At the same time, according to the ambassador, Abkhazia and South Ossetia shouldn’t hurry to join the “union state”. “These states, recognised by only two counties in the world, need to bolder self esteem and then join different unions,” A. Surikov emphasised.

It should be reminded that Alyaksandr Lukashenka said in an interview to western media that the new “house of representatives” may recognise South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
