Attempt of blocking Charter’s website
- 26.09.2008, 11:14
A short DoS attack on Charter’s website has been launched at 10.20 am (Minsk time) today. Access tp the website remained blocked for 30 minutes.
It is the repeating of the situation we faced six months ago, when “unknown” hackers attacked a number of Belarusian independent websites ahead of Chernobyl Way rally. That time, a so called test attack was launched against our website the day before the main attack. As a rule, by such actions an executor demonstrates his or her abilities and checks viral net for the attack.
We’d like to warn visitors, that if attack will be continued or renewed, access to the website may be denied from everywhere in the world, as the attack has the site’s server as its target.
On September 28, beginning from 8.00 pm, we plan to cover online the action of protest against rigging of the results of the “parliamentary election”, which will be held on that day. Attempts of hindering spreading of alternative information on the Internet have become traditional in Belarus during loud political events.
DoS attack to crash the site’s server is the biggest attempt of restricting access to the website both for Belarusian and foreign visitors.
We believe that in spite of all attempts of restricting access to our website, true information about the “parliamentary election” and the protest rally on September 28 will reach people in Belarus and in the world via dozens of information websites, blogs, and forums. The Internet can’t be closed down.
