Labour Ministry of Belarus does not consider the recent devaluation of ruble good reason for wage and salary indexation.
Such an opinion has been expressed by the first deputy minister of labour and social defence of Belarus Maryanna Shchyotkina.
“Today we have definite social policy line, and nobody had annulled the documents on social development of the country, and planned salary growth for the period till 2010. Correction in actions is certainly needed, in connection with the fact that we have two priorities left: stability of the state and citizens’ living standards. That is why issues of wages is worked out, and basic rate growth had never stopped; everything is aimed at maintaining social stability,” M. Shchotkina said.
As we have informed, on January 2 the Belarusian ruble was devaluated by 20.5%. Thus wages and salaries of the Belarusians in their dollar equivalent have decreased considerably. And prices in shops have grown in connection with devaluation.
